Writing with Roshaunda is for Black women in higher education working on book projects that share the stories that typically go untold.
Writing with Roshaunda is coaching that supports your growth, development, and forward progress in your writing, AND it helps you create dynamic writing that lives on the page. In me you have a coach with a keen editorial eye, years of experience working with writers, and someone who is deeply concerned with sharing stories that often go untold.
I combine my experience as an academic writer and writing coach and certified fiction book coach with the literary techniques, methods, and mindsets of 19th Century writers (the OGs who made sure our stories got told). I help modern authors who write both historical and contemporary literature (nonfiction and fiction). I help historical writers breathe life onto the page by helping you move your writing from historical setting to historical immersion. And I help contemporary writers situate themselves in a long lineage of Black women writers who write truth to power. Let’s tell your story together.

Scholar’s Study: A Refuge for 19th-Century African American Letters & Legacy
Invest in a private writing retreat in a 19th Century Victorian home with many original details from 1888 (such as hardwood flooring, stained glass windows, decorative molding, radiators, fireplaces, mantles, and pocket doors). Scholar’s Study will inspire your creativity and inform your period accuracy.
I’m inviting you into my home (the physical manifestation of LELA House) so you can immerse yourself in your 19th Century writing while surrounding yourself with 19th Century architecture and books. You’ll have private writing space and access to my personal library of 19th Century books, 19th Century adjacent books, writing craft books, and African American praise tradition books. Many books also have my own annotations for you to discover.
Gift yourself dedicated time to your craft in this unique writing atmosphere in the picturesque Southwest Garden Neighborhood of St. Louis, MO. Please note, you must use stairs to enter my home and to do any exploration beyond the main level of the home.
Do you want to make a full day of your research and writing time? My home is within walking distance of Tower Grove Park, which was built in the early 1870s in the Victorian Gardenesque style. I’m a quick drive (or walking distance, depending on who you are) from the Missouri Botanical Garden, which opened to the public in 1859. And I’m about a 15-minute drive from the Missouri History Museum, multiple 19th Century water towers, and other historic sites.
Scholar’s Study can be your standalone research and writing retreat, or you can create a full immersion agenda with nearby resources. Craft your 19th Century immersion today.
$200 – Three (3) hours of uninterrupted deep work. You can use your time to write, research, and explore the character and quirks of a 19th Century home. Plus a one (1) hour writing consultation with me. You will spend a total for four (4) hours immersed in your work and research.
You’ll also be able to partake of water, tea, and light refreshment.
Available March through November by application only.
