Check out the next episode of Real & Raw with Roshaunda where I discuss racism and equality in my high school experience. Please comment below to share your school struggles with this topic.
That Time I Was Sent to the Principal’s Office for Assaulting a Teacher

Thank you for sharing this with us, Roshaunda. So unfair and unacceptable to have been treated that way by that teacher. Thank you for sharing your story and your light!
Thank you! It was surreal, but I was so excited my act of civil disobedience had an impact.
OMG, Roshaunda! As someone that went to high school with you, this title really threw me for a loop! I remember the rule. I honestly don’t remember if I ever broke it but I’m betting I did, not that it mattered since I was one of the many white girls. One of the things I remember the most about high school was the lack of diversity. To be honest, moving to Edmond from Lawton, the huge lack of diversity immediately stood out.
I had a great upbringing in Edmond, but I was very cognizant of being the only black person in nearly every situation.
I also wish to thank you for sharing your story Dr. Cade! You showed how at such a young age, one woman can make significant changes to right a wrong via purposeful and insightful civil disobedience. Biased laws/rules are not “lawful.”
Thank you! I never thought about it quite like that.
I too appreciate you sharing your story Dr. Cade! You showed that even at such a young age, one woman can make a difference with purposeful and insightful disobedience. Biased laws/rules aren’t “lawful.”
